Ric's Promise to Bureaus

 

You have a challenging job. I know you do, because I consulted to and worked closely with the Queensland Executive of the Meetings & Events Association in Australia. What I was witness to, not only amazed me but left me befuddled as to how some of these people could call themselves "professional" speakers.

By working closely with the MEA I have witnessed first hand how difficult it is trying to coordinate all the disparate elements required to successfully complete a conference or event. With all the other difficulties which prevail, the last thing you need is a speaker adding to your stress.

It was bizarre how often experienced and expensive professional speakers wouldn't have their materials delivered by the deadline, racked up large travel costs or couldn't show enough respect to arrive at the meeting room until five minutes before they were supposed to commence their talk.

This experience affords me an enormous amount of empathy and appreciation for what you do. Becuse of this, I make it my responsibility to always make your job easier. Here are my promises to you. I will:

  • Ensure you and your client receive everything that is required well before your deadlines.
  • Clearly and succinctly label files I send you, so you will know precisely what each file is and who it is from. How annoying is it to be organising an event with multiple speakers, all of whom label their files "headshot" or "picture"?
  • Send you and your client powerful, proven marketing materials that will help you boost your attendance.
  • Happily attend dinners, lunches, breakfasts or cocktail parties to meet your people.
  • Show up at the event (and the meeting room) in plenty of time and telephone you so that you and your client know I have arrived. This way nobody is worried where I am.
  • Finish on time. If the event is behind time, I will ask your client if they want me to speak for my full time or get them back on time by finishing at the scheduled time.
  • Be easy to work with. Prima donnas only add to your stress - you don't need that!

My objective is for both of us to receive heaps of praise from your client. Build a relationship with me and I will ensure your clients refer and recommend you to others and continue to give you all their repeat business.
