Interventions by Noam Chomsky is my current read. Chomsky cannot get published in his own country, but remains the most prolific intellectual writer on current world affairs. A professor of linguistics, he has become the objective voice of reason and his insights and opinions are dramatic and confronting. If you believe you are well-read, well-versed and current - regarding the world of politics and foreign policy; but you are not conversant with Chomsky, well .... This book is a collection of his newspaper articles and columns, re-edited for currency and readability. Thoroughly recommended.

Why people act. A survey of 200 executive women by The Society for Executive Wisdom reported that 83% listed as their number one priority, "good service" as their primary consideration in choosing a restaurant. A MasterCard study stated that of the ten highest rated reasons people selected restaurants, six related in some way to service, three regarding the quality of the food, and only one with value. None related to having the lowest price. True quality is a result of product differentiation through satisfying unique needs and desires, focusing on the outcome and results for the customer or client. Peter Drucker clearly stated that quality in a service or product is not what you put into it, but what the customer gets out of it. "Focus on the outputs not the inputs." - Ric Willmot

Business is investing greatly to increase results. Money is being spent on advertising, marketing, technology, planning, emotional intelligence and a myriad other fallowed efforts. Hoping and wishing for a holy grail to deliver a competitive advantage. But the most valuable and highest ROI, customer service, is being neglected. We have all experienced poor customer service. Why? Attention needs to be paid to the internal workings of business that project immediately and with consequence, externally. The interaction between internal and external stakeholders.
