Implementing change in organisations
Whether you are an accountant, a lawyer, a psychiatrist, psychologist, recruitment consultant, business consultant, coach, designer, engineer, architect, draftsman, professional speaker, whatever … my premise is, you are a ‘consultant.’
As consultants, our role is to implement change within our client organisations. This of course, is a challenging opportunity, no matter what your specialty, and will continue to be so. We need to be adept at assisting the people in our client organisations to accept change. It is important, no matter what your profession, even for lawyers, to use the following tools:
- Communicate with the people
- This includes, to a greater extent, listening. You will always learn more listening!
- Instruct and tutor the people, to achieve predetermined measurable objectives relevant to the desired way of operating
- Facilitate and enable the immediate application and utilisation of the new skills and knowledge
- Make certain that people are recruited and transferred at the appropriate time, in the best manner, in quick time
- Bear in mind people’s convenience, expectations and needs and facilitate the change as painlessly as possible
- Elicit, manage and deal with concerns, remembering that emotions are important in any and all circumstances
- Identify and sell the benefits of change, honestly.
